Marketing project
In order to raise money for magazine production, OMG members attempt to sell at least 7 subscriptions to friends, family and community members. During this project, I reached out to over 10 people in the community, introducing myself and the ODYSSEY.
Working UGA football games
To raise money for our program, the ODYSSEY Media Group works a concession stand at the University of Georgia football games. Every home game, the staff comes together for around 10 hours to work hard managing various tasks such as making food, managing money and working with people. This time spent working hard brings the staff together and formulates a deeper bond outside of the classroom.
Brownlee Q&A social media promotion
Following the posting of a story, a social media element is always required. After I conducted my first Q&A with Ms. Brownlee, I knew the perfect way to promote it over social media was to let her use her own words. I went outside of the typical style caption and did something different, and it ended up attracting many readers to the website.
Social Media promotion for “Bye, soul sister”
For my blog about my sister leaving for college, I created a social media promotion to attract people to it online. I included questions about mentors and best friends for the viewers to relate to. Almost immediately following the post, the activity on the website increased. This assignment emphasized the importance of promoting one’s piece on various platforms for the most interaction it can get.
Introducing the ODYSSEY to the community
When attending a culinary class for my experience story, "Experiencing food", I was put in an unfamiliar setting with strangers older than me. I began talking to many participants of the class and explained my position and what the ODYSSEY is. I formed new relationships, further spread awareness of our publication and represented the OMG outside of CCHS in an appropriate manner.
Distribution and promotion of magazines
When an issue of the ODYSSEY comes out, many members of OMG come in early before school, during lunch and after school to distribute copies to students and teachers in the building. By devoting our time to this cause, we inform the community and create relationships with unfamiliar faces we see in the halls and classrooms. We represent the ODYSSEY.
